Seafarer’s Kitchen

In Restaurant Columbus at the Hotel Hafen Flensburg, you dine in style with a view of the water in an ambience that revives the spirit of the distinguished seafarers of previous centuries. Natural materials – such as dark wood and leather-covered chairs and benches, as well as modern design accents – ensure that guests almost feel like they are on board a ship themselves. Those who also want to set sail in terms of taste will be delighted by the rum-infused menu: a small selection of dishes inspired by Flensburg rum, such as the rum-pickled salmon sashimi, the rum-painted flank steak or the poor knight with rum plums. The “Rum City of Flensburg” arrangement with a rum surprise in the room and a “sip of rum” awaiting at the Schifffahrtsmuseum-Rumkontor also refers to Flensburg’s long history as a city of rum.

Restaurant Das Grace in Hotel “Das James” is a young, elegant and hip gastronomy location that was awarded a Michelin star in 2023, as well as a green Michelin star. The latter is a special award for restaurants that are committed to sustainable business practices and philosophies. In the case of “Das Grace”, this means that much of the food that is prepared in the kitchen for enjoyable meals comes from the fields and meadows of James Farm: meat, dairy products, eggs, bread and vegetables. The James Farm is an affiliated, innovative farm just outside Flensburg that also invites visitors to tours, workshops and shopping in the farm shop. Ecological thinking and action are redefined here – and implemented.

Cosy and hospitable

We eat what makes it to the table! This is the lovingly creative motto of the “Hafenküche crew, who put new dishes on the menu every day. Speaking of menus: They don’t really exist like that. That is because the current, freshly prepared starters, main courses and desserts can be found on a blackboard in the middle of the restaurant. Their composition is decided according to what is available regionally and seasonally. The result is classic dishes that are modern, sometimes boldly interpreted and simply taste really good. One vegan and one vegetarian dish are always on offer, as well as two fish and two meat dishes.

Schleswig-Holstein’s best restaurant

Dirk Luther is a chef of international stature. Since 2008, his Restaurant Meierei Dirk Luther, picturesquely located on the outskirts of Flensburg with a fantastic view of the Flensburg Fjord, has been consistently awarded two Michelin stars. It delights true gourmets with classic French cuisine at the highest level. In 2023/2024, the Gault & Millau ranking awarded the restaurant four black toques, officially making it the best restaurant in Schleswig-Holstein. “Indulgence with all senses” is the motto that stands above the restaurant’s every creation, and that also determines the philosophy of the Vitalhotel Alter Meierhof, whose culinary flagship is the gourmet restaurant.
