Beekeeping and manufactory Ahrensburg

Keep food fresh like in grandma's day with homemade beeswax cloths.

Beekeeping that is true to the bees' nature is based on a respectful, open-hearted relationship with the bees. The type of beekeeping is based on the natural needs and instincts of the bee colony, which is why the bees at Hansen Honig Manufaktur build their own honeycombs (natural construction) and reproduce by swarming. The common practice of artificial queen breeding is avoided. The integrity of the sensitive brood nest is preserved.

As the bees normally live off their own honey, only part of the honey is removed and only fed in times of need. The beehives are made of wood, a natural material. There are ten bee colonies in Hansen's garden - that's between 100,000 and 500,000 bees. The number of bees depends on the season: In winter there are around 10,000 bees and in summer, when it comes to feeding the brood and stocking up for the winter, the colony explodes and is up to 50,000 bees strong.
