Galerie Tobien – the gilding workshop. Since being set up in 1980 by Joachim Tobien, the gallery has become a complex, stimulating centre for art, culture and handicraft.
The motto is “Art is fun” – as they are specialists in framing, gilding and art. This gallery of the North has been based in Husum for more than 40 years. It has made a name for itself beyond the borders of North Frisia with its gilding and framing workshop. The range of services extends far beyond classic advice on, and the supply of, framing services. The in-house gilding master workshop will prepare individual creations for your pictures.
There is always plenty to discover in the gallery: a wide-ranging selection of paintings, sculptures and a large stock of original artworks. High-quality art prints, postcards, picture books by renowned illustrators and artistic gift items enrich the range. The workshop invites visitors to large thematic exhibitions and individual shows with works by artists of national and international renown five times a year.
Gilding workshops
In the workshops, you will be offered an insight into the fascination of the gilding craft. Although so far no-one has been born a (gilding) master, you will make your own gilded frame in a single day with instruction: from the chalk base to the burnished leaf gold. In a relaxed gathering, you will find out fascinating details about this special, traditional craft as well as its history and amusing anecdotes.
