Ahrensburg

Discover the town of Ahrensburg with its famous Renaissance style castle built in 1595. The town of Ahrensburg lies at the gates of Hamburg and is a great destination for lovers of towns and nature. Not far away, you will find the nature conservation area of the Stellmoor-Ahrensburg-Tunneltal (tunnel valley) where you can hike and enjoy nature.

With more than 34,000 inhabitants, Ahrensburg is the largest town in the district of Stormarn which lies between the cities of Hamburg and Lübeck.

Thanks to its first-class location on the North-East border of Hamburg, Ahrensburg can be quickly and easily reached via the A1 motorway, and also has two regional railway stations and two U-Bahn (underground) stations.

The emblem of the town is Ahrensburg Castle, built in Renaissance style around 1595. As a moated castle, it served as a mansion for the aristocratic Ahrensburg Estate. Today, it opens its doors as a museum for the aristocratic interior design of the 18th and 19th centuries. The castle that was opened in 2016 after extensive renovation work, has been completely restored.

Enjoy the pristine countryside in the nature conservation area of the Stellmoor-Ahrensburg tunnel valley, and read about the Stone Age past of the tunnel valley on displays marking the historical, archaeological hiking trail. Gut Wulfsdorf is a biodynamically managed estate shortly before the Hamburg border. It has a farm café and shop making it a great place to take refreshments and have a look around. The Jordsand Association’s Haus der Natur (Nature House) and Robben Café are also worth a visit. They offer a selection of dishes and drinks prepared and served by people with and without disabilities.
