Schleswig-Holstein can be reached via the following motorways: from the north via the A7, from the east via the A20 and A24, and from the south via the A7 and A1.

With the car train (in german) to Sylt: From Niebüll you can reach the island of Sylt in only 35 minutes – quickly and comfortably with the DB car train SyltShuttle. Simply park to Sylt and back. Another way of arriving is the Sylt ferry. The ferry shuttles throughout the year up to 18 times a day between the mainland and the island of Sylt. You can book a parking space for your vehicle in advance.

You can reach the other North Frisian islands and Halligen, as well as the island of Heligoland, quite comfortably by ferry. The Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn can be reached by car via the Fehmarnsund Bridge.

Just avoid traffic jams and enjoy your journey from the outset: in the long-distance trains of the Deutsche Bahn. Once you have arrived, you can stay mobile with the help of regional transportation.

Discover the most beautiful destinations in the region with Schleswig-Holstein regional trains. Around 800 trains will travel within Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and on the route Lübeck-Lüneburg in Lower Saxony. Hamburg Airport connects the Northern German region with many parts of the world. Here, you will find all arrival and departure times of Hamburg Airport as well as comprehensive information on your direct forward journey to Schleswig-Holstein by bus, train or rental car.

The Kielius airport bus (in german) travels from Hamburg Airport to Kiel via Neumünster and vice versa up to 19 times a day.

The quickest way to the island of Sylt is also by plane. You can find information on year-round and seasonal flights to Sylt (in german), all up-to-date arrival and departure times as well as your individual onward journey.

With the aeroplane to Helgoland (in german): Germany’s only deep-sea island can now also be reached by plane from a range of departure points.
