The Garden of Butterflies is host to other attractions alongside its tropical greenhouse and its ‘singing water garden’ with koi and camellias. Both the bamboo house and our new project ‘... and the forest speaks’ allow insights into the background and provide information. Children and adults alike will enjoy the exotic animals, which include Chinese blue-breasted quails, red-eared sliders and a chameleon. There’s a big sandpit with an array of colourful toys and swings for our smallest visitors. The bunnies, which live in a castle, look forward to a visit. There are also separate baby-changing facilities in our new child-friendly toilets. The welcoming staff at the cafe and the cafeteria provide for all your children’s needs and will gladly serve them special dishes. Delicious cakes, fruity sundaes, a small bistro menu and a selection of tea and coffee specialities await parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

The ‘Garden of Butterflies’ is located to the east of Hamburg in historical Friedrichsruh. The locality is in Sachsenwald – Schleswig-Holstein’s largest continuous area of woodland. Princess Elisabeth von Bismarck’s garden is Germany’s oldest butterfly garden, and it enchants over 80,000 visitors every year with its variety and richly coloured tropical butterflies. Every stage of the mysterious metamorphosis can be seen here, and the newly gained knowledge can be applied to the native flora and fauna.
