Biikensais and Alter Friese – only to be found in the north
Naturally matured Tilsiter, creamy raw cheese with blue or red veins, specialities with fenugreek or green pepper, elegant cheese or real stinkers – the diverse range of cheeses on offer in Schleswig-Holstein means it can compete with the best in Europe. Specialities such as Biikensais, Friesisch Blue (Frisian Blue), Fünf-Sprachen-Käse (Five-Language Cheese), Alter Friese (Old Frisian) or Fünf-Seen-Käse (Five-Lakes Cheese) can only be found here.
A trip across the state from dairy to dairy
The Käsestrasse, which is over 500 kilometres long, connects all producers and events related to this dairy delicacy with one another, right across the state – whilst taking in many sights of interest and Schleswig-Holstein's most beautiful landscapes along the way.
Sheep's cheese from North Frisia
Visitors can purchase all kinds of cheese varieties from cow's, goat's or sheep's milk in more than 30 cheese dairies – for instance, in the Volquardsen dairy for Frisian sheep's cheese. At its idyllic farmyard location on a historic dwelling mound on the Eiderstedt peninsula, visitors can not only taste the specialities, but also learn a lot about sheep farming – stroking included!
