Sights of interest and places to visit

Church of St Lawrence
The Church of St Lawrence was erected from 1716 to 1718 in the baroque style with a nave, aisle and transept and a wide wooden barrel vault. It is a brick building with a distinctive spire crowned by an onion dome.

theater itzehoe
Plays have been performed at a theatre in this town on the river Stör for over 100 years – as of 1992 in the architecturally remarkable ‘theater itzehoe’, designed by Professor Gottfried Böhm from Cologne. More information: www.theater-itzehoe.de

Wenzel Hablik Museum
The Wenzel Hablik Museum has been in existence since 1995 in a merchant's house in Reichenstrasse. The location is a listed building. It houses the works left behind by the German-Bohemian artist Wenzel Hablik (1881–1934), who lived and worked in Itzehoe from 1907 until his death. More information: www.wenzel-hablik.de

Prinzesshof District Museum
The Prinzesshof District Museum is located in one of the town's oldest buildings – a domicile for gentry which was built by the convent in 1556. This was the home not only of Elector Wilhelm I of Hesse-Kassel, but also of three princesses between 1810 and 1941. They where abbesses of the Itzehoe Convent – which is why it is called the ‘Prinzesshof’ (the Princesses' Court). This building was first used as a museum in 1964.
