Husum
The charming harbour town of Husum is located in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein’s North Sea coast and directly on the absolutely unique Wadden Sea, with its North Frisian island and Halligen world.
Husum is known as a ‘centre of culture’ on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein – particularly thanks to the famous author Theodor Storm, who was born here.
Spaciously designed fashion stores and boutiques as well as numerous specialist shops invite you to take a pleasant stroll around the shops.
You can enjoy real North Frisian specialities in one of the cosy fish restaurants or cafes – and there’s a good chance you’ll have a view of the harbour or the North Sea.
Sights of interest and places to visit
Husum is the gateway to the North Sea, and due to its central location on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein it is the ideal place for tours and boat trips along the North Sea coast. Inland detours also come highly recommended, for instance into neighbouring Denmark or over to Schleswig-Holstein’s Baltic coast.
Some of the popular attractions of Husum are the Storm House, the nearby castle, the redesigned North Sea Museum and the North Frisian Shipping Museum. Regular guided tours of the town give you an insight into the fascinating past of Husum and its present. Anyone who wants to discover the charming harbour town on their own can follow the informative culture trail.
Appealing highlights on Husum’s event calendar include the Crocus Blossom Festival in spring, the Harbour Days in summer, the Poppenspäler Festival in September, the Prawn Festival in October and the Christmas Market in the advent period.
The surrounding villages in Husum Bay offer North Frisian discovery tours where you can follow in the footsteps of Theodor Storm’s dykemaster on a dyke walk or a mudflat hike.
